About the Film
Intention
Worth One's Salt documentary aims to reassess available data on maternal healthcare utilization to identify barriers and better understand inequities in maternal health for black pregnant teens in the United States.
Synopsis / Vision
Worth One’s Salt illuminates the increased presence and factors contributing to the severity of poorer maternal health outcomes for black pregnant teens and their babies. Through storytelling, former teen moms unknowingly redefine the term “access” as they share their pregnancy and childbirth stories. Interviews with public health nurses, social workers, and teen parent advocates highlight the inequities and challenges the teen parent community faces while calling for support and accountability for this vulnerable population.
This film hopes to galvanize the masses by illustrating the onus of known barriers to health equity in maternal health for black pregnant teens falls on healthcare providers and social workers to create innovative engagement strategies to improve access to high-quality maternal healthcare.
